Factor Activo comes from Covilhã, where in 1991 they began the first operations with a view to materializing a collective. At the time, Defski and DJLMF were working at Rádio Clube da Covilhã and decided to start building what were in fact the group’s first themes, after some experimentation.
The creation of a model, which featured the themes “Covilhã 92”, “Não Passa Dum Beto”, “Vim Pra Dançar” and “Apocalipse”, was the result of the work done during the previous year. Factor Activo’s maneuvers continued to grow, until in 1994 the group appeared with the theme “Mas Qual a Reação do Morto que Dorme(?)” on the compilation “Portugal Rebelde Vol 1”.
The creative direction continued to involve constant allusions to the sounds of new trends, including pure electronic music, drum n’bass and rap. The formation then gained voice, with the entry of Marco. In 1995, Factor Activo appeared once again on a compilation, this time promoted by Antena 3, where they had the song “Cor da Minha Pele”, in a duet with Lulu Blind.
The search for new sounds continued with a new collaboration with Blind, released on cassette tape, which included the tracks “Radical” and “Bang!Bang!”. The group then performed several live shows, which were abruptly interrupted by a car accident.
The second part of the compilation “Portugal Rebelde” was the reason for the resurgence, and in 1997 they recorded the video for the song “Bang! Bang!”. The changes in the formation took effect shortly afterwards, with Aleixas replacing DJLMF, Ritz on guitar and Blue taking over the keys. Rehearsals aimed at recording new records occupied the band during 1998 and, the following year, the promotional album “Códigos” appeared, with four tracks.
In 2000, a new bassist joined the project, and the song ‘Beelzebu’ was chosen for the compilation “Raia Tone”. In 2001, the magazine Raia, from Castelo Branco, once again organized a compilation, with songs by bands from the interior of the country. Factor Activo contributes a version of the track ‘Radical’.
2002 marks the band’s appearance at the Super Bock Super Rock festival, in the Super Bandas Novas program. ‘Adeus’, a song with a sample of Eugénio de Andrade’s voice, appears on the compilation “Raia Lounge”. In 2004, Factor Activo began recording “Em Liveo do Fim do Mundo”. Hugo Correia, from Fadomorse, Kubik (aka Victor Afonso) and the Spaniard Alejandro Burgos are some of the special guests.
In the same year, trumpeter Orlando joined the group, which participated in the compilation “Super Castelo Branco” with the song ‘Falta de Sorte’. 2005 marks the release of Factor Activo’s long-awaited debut album, by Loop Recordings.
