The Soaked Lamb
Formed in 2006, the Portuguese blues band The Soaked Lamb, composed of six multi-instrumentalists, has its origins in the decision of Miguel Lima (the drummer) to record a CD. The recordings for this took place in the apartment of one of the members (Afonso Cruz), and it happened that they never played together, but they were recording (some of the musicians didn’t even get to know each other at that time) and, only after the recordings were completed, rehearsals began for being able to play live, so the band was born from a record, and not the other way around. Having been entirely recorded at home, the band’s first album is titled Homemade Blues, and is an album of handcrafted music recorded over almost a year.
As all the band members have other professions, recordings took place on Sundays. As the owner of the house occasionally prepared lamb stew, it was thanks to the Sunday menu that the band gained its name.
The title of The Soaked Lamb’s second album, Hats and Chairs, is a reference to their image on stage, as for their shows the musicians opted for a retro look, in line with the musical style they practice and which does not dispense with the use of wearing a hat, and for playing while sitting.
They have played all over the country and participated in film soundtracks, with emphasis on The Art of Stealing by Leonel Vieira.
conheço a banda desde o álbum Hats and Chairs de 2010 e são sem dúvida dos meus grupos favoritos em Portugal!
Their music isn’t my pie though but the album is lid.
The Soaked Lamb is a band of roots music with a strong influence of pre-war blues and jazz.
