Anjos is a Portuguese musical duo formed by brothers Nelson Rosado (born February 3, 1976) and Sérgio Rosado (born February 22, 1980). Their journey began in 1988 when they balanced regular school and music lessons during the week with weekend performances at dances across Portugal, always supported by their parents, Manuel and Graciete.
Their stage debut took place at Casa do Algarve when Nelson was 12 and Sérgio was 8. In 1996, encouraged by their music teacher, they won the ‘Lugar aos Novos’ radio contest on Rádio Renascença/Voz de Lisboa, marking a key turning point in their ambition to build a professional music career.
Their big public breakthrough came in 1997 on RTP 1’s television show ‘Casa de Artistas’, where they won the grand finale after passing every stage with distinction. This success launched them into nationwide fame and widespread recognition, which the brothers handled with complete ease and naturalness.
The “Sétimo Céu” project proved to be a major turning point for Sérgio and Nelson, placing them within a more professional framework and boosting their visibility through frequent appearances on TV, radio, and concert stages nationwide. However, this chapter eventually came to a close, clearing the way for what would become their defining act: ANJOS.
Recognizing the duo’s immense potential, NZ Produções signed the brothers and officially established ANJOS, creating one of the most successful pop duos in Portuguese history. In 1999, less than three months after launching, they took the music market by storm with their debut album, FICAREI. Backed by a polished image and top-tier production quality, they topped the charts and quickly won over fans across the country, particularly among younger audiences.
Their overwhelming popularity earned them triple-platinum status, features on more than 44 magazine covers in just seven months, and countless media appearances. Their success even expanded internationally when they were invited to perform on Brazil’s famous Xuxa Show, where they were an instant hit with the Brazilian public.
In 2001, following the release of their second album, ESPELHO, which cemented their reputation for quality, ANJOS decided to take control of their career by parting ways with NZ Produções. Going independent, they launched their own production and management company, ANGELMINDS, and introduced a full live band structure that remains part of their concerts to this day. That same year, in partnership with Daniel Oliveira, they published their first biography, O Palco da Vida (“The Stage of Life”), offering fans an intimate look into their personal lives and musical journey.
The duo continued to innovate in 2002 by entering the lifestyle market—a trend popular internationally at the time—with the release of their signature fragrance, “Simple.” Designed specifically for their fanbase, the limited-edition perfume became an instant hit and sold out completely within a few months.
Their momentum built further with the TOUR VIVER and its live recording, ANJOS TOUR VIVER, which achieved platinum status and was named 2003 DVD of the Year by DVD Review magazine readers. In 2004, they released the album SEGREDOS, powered by hit singles like “Bem longe, num sono meu,” “Soprar Estrelas,” and “Há-de haver onde estar”, keeping the duo at the forefront of the Portuguese music industry.
In 2005, ANJOS returned with the album ALMA, a release that marked a new era for the duo and solidified their position as a cornerstone of modern Portuguese music. Their success continued to grow in 2007, when they took on an unprecedented project: recording the entire soundtrack for the SIC soap opera VINGANÇA. Despite the album’s 11 tracks not being original compositions, the Rosado brothers brought their signature drive and professionalism to the project, turning it into a massive hit. That same year, they recorded the theme for another popular SIC drama, RESISTIREI, and served as judges on the talent show Família Super Star. Exactly ten years after their own contest debut, they found themselves on the other side of the table—and were so impressed by winner Filipa Azevedo that they produced her debut album.
As their career progressed, the duo reunited with writer and journalist Marcos Pinto in 2008 to release the second installment of their biography, titled Na Alma dos Anjos (“In the Soul of Anjos”), documenting the dramatic changes and milestones of the previous seven years for their fanbase.
By late 2009, after extensive preparation, Sérgio and Nelson unveiled their long-awaited album Virar a Página (“Turning the Page”). Reflecting a more mature and intimate sound, the project was launched at an acoustic presentation shared with close friends and family. The lead title track featured a collaboration with Sérginho Moah, lead singer of the popular Brazilian group Papas na Língua, becoming a major hit in both Portugal and Brazil.
Throughout 2010, the Rosado brothers continued to demonstrate their strong commitment to charitable causes by recording official anthems for prominent Portuguese solidarity organizations, including the Pirilampo Mágico campaign and the Terra dos Sonhos foundation. Their artistic legacy was further celebrated in early 2011 when the Biography Channel invited the duo to star in a special episode of Playlist, reflecting on their top hits and defining moments over more than a decade in music.
Driven by an ambition to reach international audiences, Nelson and Sérgio recorded “Pasar la Página” in February 2011—a Spanish-language version of their smash single accompanied by a brand-new music video that gained widespread traction both at home and abroad. Later that year, the brothers returned to prime-time television as judges on the hit talent competition The Voice Portugal (A Voz de Portugal), mentoring top contestants and guiding singer Ricardo Oliveira all the way to a second-place finish in the grand finale.
Closing out an impactful 2011, the brothers turned a long-held dream into reality by partnering with Colégio Atlântico in Seixal to found the Anjos Music Academy. Aimed at educating and inspiring children and young aspiring musicians, the academy achieved immediate success, fostering a collaborative learning environment where students, instructors, and the Anjos brothers themselves share their passion for music.
Seeking to push creative boundaries and experiment with new performance styles, Sérgio and Nelson introduced an intimate acoustic format designed for indoor, seated venues. In July 2012, they launched this concept at the Seixal Municipal Forum, performing stripped-down renditions of their hits alongside their live band and featured guest musicians—a performance recorded for the live Acústico CD/DVD. The event also marked the debut of their new single, “Quero Te Encontrar,” co-written with performing guest Pedro Vaz. This new musical direction launched the duo’s nationwide ACOUSTIC TOUR, which toured across Portugal for over two years.
The year 2012 also saw ANJOS return to intimate showcase performances and autograph sessions in partnership with FNAC stores. The overwhelming turnout at every scheduled date demonstrated the enduring loyalty of their fanbase and highlighted the crucial role that direct public support played throughout their career.
The acoustic project expanded the duo’s audience reach and opened doors to prominent media appearances throughout 2013. National radio stations frequently invited Sérgio and Nelson for live studio sessions, including a critically acclaimed acoustic cover of Swedish House Mafia on RFM’s Sem Palheta. In another memorable radio moment, the brothers teamed up with Vasco Palmeirim on Rádio Comercial to rewrite their classic hit “Ficarei” as a lighthearted tribute to SL Benfica football coach Jorge Jesus, entertaining listeners nationwide.
In October 2013, Lisbon’s historic Campo Pequeno venue hosted a landmark concert celebrating the 15th anniversary of ANJOS’ career. The emotional evening featured a fan-made video retrospective highlighting the duo’s biggest moments and a guest appearance by singer-songwriter Agir, who would go on to write tracks for the band’s upcoming original releases. Staying true to their collaborative spirit, the brothers continued honoring Portugal’s legendary music figures, notably delivering a moving tribute performance of “A Gente Vai Continuar” alongside iconic artist Jorge Palma on RTP1’s 5 Para A Meia-Noite in March 2014.
Embracing digital trends to stay closely connected with their fanbase, Sérgio and Nelson continually revamped their official online presence, building a strong digital community across YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook. Recognizing their digital influence, LG and BigApetite partnered with the duo in September 2014 to launch a dedicated mobile app, offering fans exclusive access to behind-the-scenes content, photos, and updates directly from the artists.
The duo continued to grace Portugal’s most prestigious stages, selling out a memorable concert at the Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB) in November 2014 featuring duet performances with close friends Rita Guerra and Paula Teixeira. Beyond their headlining shows, ANJOS lent their voices to significant civic and charitable causes, recording a duet with The Guest for the Princess Leonor Association (APLAS) anthem and performing the Lisbon City Council’s official 2015 Olympic Anthem.
At Christmas 2014, Rádio Comercial invited ANJOS to perform live on their flagship morning show after a public survey named “Nesta Noite Branca”—their iconic holiday duet with singer Susana—the most beloved and nostalgic Portuguese Christmas song. This special broadcast reaffirmed the track’s enduring status as a seasonal classic and a milestone in the brothers’ discography.
In May 2015, the duo released their energetic summer single “É o Amor,” which rapidly climbed national airplay charts, reaching the top 10 on RFM’s Top 25 within its first week. Marking a strategic shift in their business model, “É o Amor” was launched as a digital-first release across streaming and download platforms, signaling the band’s adaptation to evolving music distribution trends.
Expanding their international footprint, Nelson and Sérgio embarked on a mini-tour across South Africa and Namibia in June 2015. Performing four acoustic shows for local audiences and the Portuguese diaspora, the duo continued their commitment to taking Portuguese pop music beyond national borders.
