Some musical journeys build themselves at just the right cadence—without rushing, yet with a steady heartbeat. Such is the case for João Santos, a drummer from Coimbra, Portugal who, after years of setting the rhythm for other projects, decided to step into the spotlight. Under the alter ego Solposto, the musician has just unveiled another chapter in this new creative phase with the release of the single “Fragile (or not)”, released October 27th 2026.
From Rehearsal Rooms to the World
João’s relationship with the drums began early, at just 7 years old. However, his commitment took on a new dimension at 15, when he entered the Porto Jazz School to study under Koen Van Esch, later refining his technique in private lessons with Chico Cardoso. The experience accumulated over years of playing in bars and holding down the drumkit for Senhor Doutor gave him the technical foundation and organic sensitivity he now brings to his solo work.
After two years of gestation and internal reflection, the desire to explore new instruments and write his own compositions took shape. On October 4th, 2024, Solposto introduced himself to the public with his debut single, officially opening the doors of his musical universe to the world.
This transition also brought a truly global dimension to the project. By crossing paths with creators from places as diverse as Argentina, Canada, Germany, Spain, Thailand, and Portugal, João found in shared experiences and distant soundscapes the energy needed to enrich his new creative mindset.
The Fusion of Organic and Electronic
Solposto’s sound navigates a territory where calmness reigns supreme. Blending the aesthetics of lo-fi, jazzhop, and downtempo, his compositions stand out for their balanced contrast: chill electronic textures and vintage ambient soundscapes intertwined with the live, human touch of acoustic drums played in real time. The goal is simple yet ambitious at its core—to break free from genre constraints, have fun, and produce whatever feels right in the moment without filters.
