In the semifinal, which took place last Saturday, they performed their original song “Chave” (Key), winning over both the audience and the judges.
They started playing at the end of the summer of 2024, and a year and a half later, they are already in the final of one of the country’s biggest talent shows. Cristovon Colombia is one of the surprises of this edition of “Got Talent Portugal,” and they insist that none of this was planned. Last Sunday, March 29, they made it through the second semifinal and secured a spot in the grand final of the RTP1 show.
“We didn’t expect to reach the final. We always went with the perspective of just doing our job. Now we’re going to keep working and see how it goes.”
The quartet brings together three members from Figueira da Foz—Marcos Cavaco (31), Dani Dias (29), and Sérgio Cruz (29)—and Hugo, their 30-year-old vocalist. Despite being a recent project, they already show a solid identity, a point highlighted by the jury throughout the program.
During the semifinal, their performance of the original track “Chave” impressed the panel. Rui Massena spoke of a “band with originality and a lot of identity,” while Manuel Moura dos Santos highlighted their “classic rock n’ roll sound.” Inês Aires Pereira praised their energy, and Filomena Cautela emphasized the importance of having more Portuguese rock.
A Grounded Approach
Behind their onstage confidence lies a simple approach. Their preparation for the show wasn’t that different from their usual routine.
“Preparing for ‘Got Talent’ is different from a normal concert, but at its core, it’s our job,” they explain. “We make some adjustments for the show and receive guidance from the production, but the foundation remains the same.”
Sérgio Cruz, the band’s guitarist, reinforces this idea and underscores the unexpected nature of their journey. “The expectations for the final are the same: to give our best. If you had told us a few months ago that we would be here, we would never have believed it.” Despite the success, they are keeping their feet on the ground. “Any of the finalists deserves to be here,” he adds.
From a Spontaneous Start to Big Dreams
The project was born almost spontaneously. Hugo and Marcos already knew each other and decided to move forward with the band last summer. Since then, growth has been rapid, both on and off the screen.
Their debut album, “Baú,” which includes tracks like “Rockstar” and “Chave,” has been gaining streams and positive comments on digital platforms, largely fueled by their exposure on the show.
However, their goals go beyond “Got Talent.” The band wants to keep growing, perform on other stages, and even participate in Festival da Canção. Looking further ahead, they dream big: selling out the Coliseus (iconic Portuguese venues).
For now, the focus is on the final, scheduled for April 12 on RTP1. The winner will be chosen by the public, and Cristovon Colombia enters as one of the major revelations of this edition. With no set plans at the start, they now have a clear vision: to keep making music and see how far it can go.
