Diogo Piçarra

Diogo Piçarra began composing and creating music since he was a teenager, influenced by different musical currents. His passion for music began with learning the guitar, which allowed him to express his emotions and tell stories through songs.

His passion for music began from an early age and at the age of 17 he created the band Fora da Bóia together with Tiago Brito, Márcio Marreiros, Diogo Simão, Wilson Pires, which lasted until 2011. The highlight of Fora da Bóia was during the release of the ep “49, 5” with themes such as “Soma e Segue”, “The Day to Follow”, “Lado Bom e Mau”, “Jazida”, “Doce Alivio”, “Marca” among others, with some of these same themes broadcast on national radio stations such as Antena 3 and Best Rock Fm. The band lasted 4 years and played all over the country, participating and winning some band competitions at the time, achieving significant success inside and outside the Algarve region. Diogo had to leave the band to pursue his degree, which ended at a university in the Czech Republic.

In 2012, he won the 5th edition of the Ídolos competition. As a prize he won a car, a scholarship at the London Music School and the recording of an album for the Universal record label.

His career gained momentum when he participated in the talent show “The Voice Portugal” in 2015, where his voice and personality captivated the audience and judges. Taking part in the show was a crucial opportunity to share his talent with a wider audience, and he ended up as one of the finalists.

In 2015, he released his debut album, Espelho, produced by Fred Ferreira, responsible for work by bands such as Orelha Negra, Buraka Som Sistema and Banda do Mar. He was the musical guest of the first episode of the soap opera Poderosas, on SIC, broadcast in May 2015. Still in 2015, he also starred in the back-to-school commercial campaign for Continente hypermarkets, with “Café Curto”, the theme from “Espelho”.

After “The Voice”, Diogo released his first album, “Intensamente”, in 2016. Many of the songs on the album reflect personal experiences, deep emotions and universal themes, becoming very resonant for listeners. Songs like “Às Vezes” and “O que é que eu faz” became big hits and helped establish his career in music.

Diogo takes a very intimate approach to his music, often writing about life experiences and feelings that are easily recognizable to the audience. His ability to emotionally connect with listeners and his authenticity in his lyrics contributed to his growth and success in the Portuguese music scene.

In 2019, he worked as a producer on the album Despedida, by Galician singer Sabela Ramil. In November 2019, the artist released his third new album, South Side Boy. According to Diogo Piçarra, the album “symbolizes our fears, our failures, our insecurities and doubts”.

In 2021 he released an “update” of his album South Side Boy, with the songs “Promessas”, one with and without Infante, “Chama-me” and “Silêncio”, this also in an acoustic version. On this album he also releases live versions of “Noites”, “Coração”, “Diferente”, “Normal” and “Escuro”. He calls this “updated album” “South Side Boy Extra.”

In 2021, he released two new singles: “Monarquia”, which features Bispo, and “Vem Dançar Comigo”.

Over the years, he continued to release new work and evolve artistically, exploring different styles and collaborations, always bringing something new to his fans. His music is a combination of personal and professional influences, reflecting both his individual journey and his artistic vision.
