António Pereira, better known by his stage name DJ Vibe, is a Portuguese DJ/Producer.
Vibe was fifteen years old when he began to pay more attention to music and to show greater interest in what was sold in his father’s record store, the first in Portugal to import dance music maxi-singles from the United States, an area he began then pay more attention.
When DJ Vibe started his musical career and came to liven up the atmosphere in clubs, it didn’t take long for him to start performing side by side with renowned names in the dance area such as Paul Oakenfold, Tony Humphries, Roger Sanchez and Danny Tenaglia. However, it was alongside a Portuguese, Rui Silva, who gained greater prominence both nationally and internationally. Together they gave life to the Underground Sound of Lisbon project, which in the summer of 1994 became popular with the anthem “So Get Up” (with lyrics and voice by Ithaka Darin Pappas, edited by Tribal USA , by Rob di Stefano, having reached number 1 of the Club Chart of the magazine “Billboard”.
From then on, DJ Vibe saw a series of international club doors begin to open and nowadays he counts on his curriculum with stamps from clubs from all over the world, such as Ministry of Sound (London), Pacha (Ibiza), Stereo (Montreal), Deep (Madrid), Vinyl (New York), Release (San Francisco), having also performed in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Radio first and publishing company Kaos later were two activities parallel to Djing that in their time entered the life of DJ Vibe. The program “4º Bairro”, which aired on Rádio Comercial in 89/90, was the vehicle for the presentation of the first “mix-show”, which was followed by a visit to Rádio Energia and then to Antena 3, where present the program “Dance Floor” on Saturdays.
On the other hand, Kaos emerged in 1992 in partnership with António Cunha and Rui da Silva, becoming the first dance music publisher in Portugal. It is through her that he edits his records, bets on new values of the most danceable music scene, and promotes the remixes he makes for names like DJ Jiggy, Danny Tenaglia, Kristine W, among others.
In 1998, Tó Pereira was invited by Twisted America Records to mix the second volume of the “Mix da Pucci 2” compilation series, and two years later the story repeated itself, this time being invited by the English distributor Intergroove, who challenged him to make a compilation, “International Grooves”, destined for record markets such as the United States, United Kingdom and Germany.
The edition of the disc ended up only taking place in April 2002 due to the events of 9/11 in New York, almost coinciding with the arrival of the second volume of the compilation “Global Grooves”, whose first part had been released on Summer 2000 and based on more than 11,000 copies sold, it hit the gold bar. And as there are no two without three, in 2002 it was MTV’s turn to invite DJ Vibe to join the lineup of the “Isle of MTV” festival, which passed through Lisbon on the 20th of July, bringing the Morcheeba and the Gorillaz to our country among other artists. It is in 45th place in the list of the 100 best dj’s.
Over the years, it has been an important and constant presence in Lisbon’s main nightclubs since the 1980s. Plateau, Alcântara-Mar, Kremlin and Lux are just some of the places where at a given time it could (or could, as the case may be) call second home.
