Founded in Viseu in June 1990, Major Alvega consisted of José Valor (programming, sampler, synthesizer; formerly of Bastardos do Cardeal, Centro de Pesquisas Ruído Branco, and Lucretia Divina), Vaz Pato (guitar; formerly of Bastardos do Cardeal and TV Toxina), and Ângelo Almeida (vocals; formerly of La Carole).
Their sound was rooted in electronic rock, drawing influences from the Belgian New Beat scene that was highly popular at the time. They utilized sampled guitar sounds backed by aggressive vocals, largely reflecting the bands that topped the musicians’ own playlists during that era. The primary visionary behind the project’s sound was the late José Valor.
Tracks such as “Buraco,” “Agência Funerária,” and “Fadário” showcase a range of compelling ideas, the result of an intelligent and consistent instrumental foundation paired with imaginative, somewhat humorous lyricism.
