Born in Porto in 2002 by João Vieira (ex-Centerfold), whose career began with the famous Club Kitten and long stays in London, X-Wife represent the sound and ambition of a band that always wanted to be bigger than the borders of our country. They began to show themselves to the Portuguese public through the EP “Rockin’Rio”.
João Vieira (aka DJ Kitten, vocals, guitar), Rui Maia (synthesizers, drums, drum machine) and Fernando Sousa (bass) make up the trio from Porto, initially catalogued as having an alternative electro/punk sound. X-Wife has been reaching an increasingly diverse audience, and their debut album “Feeding The Machine”, released in early 2004, contributed greatly to this. Compared to names like The Strokes (!) or The Rapture, X-Wife has already appeared at several festivals on their resume.
Two years after “Feeding the Machine”, the Porto collective released “Side Effects”, a new full-length, having also secured the release of the two records in Spain and the USA. In 2007 they played at Super Bock Super Rock, after a first appearance in 2004, making their debut on the main stage. A year later, the trio plays for the first time on the Heineken stage at the Paredes de Coura festival, preceding the release of their third album “Are You Ready for The Blackout?”, in September.
This new record was anticipated by the single “On The Radio”, which features Raquel Ralha from WrayGunn. The band’s sound is above all rock. Sometimes more electronic, sometimes more raw, but the sound is based on what is characterized as alternative rock. Not inferior to international bands from the same catalog, X-Wife has already taken its sound to countries such as Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Italy or the United States, seeing its albums recognized by influential “opinion makers” such as the NME.
With a few albums released, the band presents an attitude on stage that reveals all the experience and cohesion that only many shows bring, making the stage their natural space, where each show represents in itself a discharge of energy, typical of those who treat rock as “you”.
gostei da vibe, mas ao que parece ainda estão no activo
