This Porto-based group first came together through the creative synergy of Lourenço Rocchi on vocals, Miguel Pais on drums, Rui Martins Pereira on bass, and Miguel Assis on guitar. From their early days, they carried an energy that quickly set them apart in the local underground scene.
Their first major milestone came when they secured a prestigious third place in the inaugural Modern Music Competition. This achievement took place at the legendary Rock Rendez Vous, a venue that served as the beating heart of Portugal’s alternative culture at the time.
On July 8, 1984, the band captured a moment in time by recording their track “Testamento.” The song earned a spot on the first Dansa do Som compilation, a release that remains a vital document of the era’s sonic experimentation.
Their impact didn’t go unnoticed by the gatekeepers of the airwaves. The legendary broadcaster António Sérgio even hailed them as one of the standout breakout acts of 1984 during his highly influential radio show, Som da Frente.
Musically, the group found their identity in the moody corridors of British post-punk. They blended this foundation with a heavy gothic influence, creating a dark, atmospheric aesthetic that perfectly mirrored the underground spirit of the mid-eighties.
As the years passed, the band evolved into a creative hub for several talented musicians. Notable figures like Pedro Saraiva—who later found success with X-Position and Dr Sax—and drummer Jorge Paxá, who eventually joined Entes Queridos, both left their mark on the project.
Even as the original lineup eventually went their separate ways, their influence persisted throughout the Portuguese music scene. Lourenço Rocchi transitioned to fronting Fado Colorado, while Miguel Pais continued his journey with bands like Johnny Johnny and Pippermint Twist, keeping the spirit of their early days alive.
