Eliseu Silva – Violinist & Orchestral Conductor

Born in Porto, Eliseu Antunes Pereira Gomes da Silva holds a Doctorate with distinction and is a Specialist in Music. He is a conductor and violinist with an international career, an educator, and an artistic director of festivals.

He has performed for high-ranking global figures, including the Emperor of Japan, the Presidency of the European Commission, Spanish royalty, and various Portuguese presidents and government officials, among others.

He has served as a jury member in several national and international violin competitions, most notably the Alice and Eleonor Schoenfeld International String Competition, the Hong Kong International Music Competitions, the Talents for Europe International Violin Competition, the Wanda Wilkomirska International Violin Competition, the Music and Stars Awards, and the Guimarães International Violin Competition.

He has given numerous recitals and concerts as a soloist and in chamber music across four continents, in countries such as the USA, Japan, China, Australia, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, France, Slovakia, Morocco, Romania, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, England, Malta, Hong Kong and Macau, Malaysia, and throughout Portugal.

He has been the artistic director of CONVIMUS – International Music Gatherings – since 2018, a music festival that includes concerts, masterclasses, and an international violin competition involving juries and students of various nationalities.

He was the co-coordinator of the Hong Kong International Music Festival, where he conducted the festival orchestra, the Macau Chamber Orchestra, and the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra in China.

He has performed as a soloist with various national and international orchestras conducted by renowned international and national conductors, such as Leon Spierer, Jean-Christophe Gautier, Anna Wirtsbuch, Colin Touchin, Julius Mickalsky, Christian Briard, António Saiote, Cesário Costa, and Marcelo Pereira, among others.

He has given masterclasses in Portugal, the USA, China, and Australia, including at Azusa Pacific University in Los Angeles, Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, Qingdao, Bratislava, and others.

Eliseu Silva composed 24 Fado Caprices, commemorating the 240th anniversary of Niccolò Paganini’s birth and the 10th anniversary of Fado as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This work was recognized by prominent national figures in composition, such as Fernando Lapa and Rui Paulo Teixeira, as well as by internationally renowned violinist Leon Spierer, former concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic. He presented this work on a world tour through Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, Macau, France, Spain, Italy, Slovakia, Poland, and the USA (Los Angeles and New York).

He has won several prizes in national and international violin competitions, including the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe International Competition, the Malta International Violin Competition, the Antena2 Young Musicians Award, the Júlio Cardona International Violin Competitions, and the Estoril International Interpretation Competition, among others.

He received several diplomas of merit and scholarships as the best student of the year in 2003 and 2004 at the I.P.P. In 2013, he won a competition promoted by the Portuguese National Center for Culture, aimed at supporting the most interesting music project at a national level.

He completed his Doctorate in Musicology – Performance and Interpretation with distinction in 2020, through a partnership between the University of Évora, the University of Porto, and the LABIOMEP biomechanics laboratory, with several articles published in various international journals, such as Springer Nature Switzerland AG and RISTI, indexed in Scopus and ISI Web of Knowledge.

He obtained the title of Specialist in July 2016 from the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon.

He was invited by Professor Uwe-Martin Heiberg to join his class at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin.

He completed a postgraduate degree in performance and earned a Master’s in Pedagogy and another in Orchestra and Music and Instrument Teaching. He attended the Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of Porto.

He completed all major cycles of study at the Porto Conservatory and the University with the highest marks.

He is currently finishing an International MBA at Porto Business School.

As a teacher, his students have received invitations to perform in the world’s leading concert halls, such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Beethoven House in Bonn (Germany), and the Mozarteum in Salzburg (Austria), as a result of various national and international awards such as the Città di Sarzana International Competition in Italy, Nouvelles Étoiles in Paris, Hong Kong International Music Festival and Hong Kong Young Musicians Competition, Nanyang International Music Competition and King’s Peak International Music Competition in Malaysia, Danubia Talents Liszt International Competition, Golden Classical Music Awards, Golden Prize Virtuoso Competition, Alexey Gorohov, Fundão Competition, Barcelos Competition, Santa Cecília, among others.

He completed his Master’s degree in 2010 with a project in orchestral conducting.

He took conducting lessons with Jean-Sébastien Béreau, Jean-Marc Burfin, Ernst Schelle, Neeme and Kristian Järvi, and Achim Holub.

He has conducted several orchestras in Portugal, China, Hong Kong, Slovakia, and France.

Several violin pieces, including solo works, sonatas, and a violin concerto, have been dedicated to him by Portuguese composers.

He was a professor at ESMAE – School of Music and Performing Arts in Porto and currently teaches at the Silva Monteiro Music Course, the Guilhermina Suggia School, and the Catholic University of Porto.

He was the resident conductor of the Bonjóia Youth Orchestra for 15 years and founded the AMASING Association and the AMASING Symphony Orchestra, of which he is the artistic director.
