David Antunes & The Midnight Band

If you follow Portuguese music and television, you have certainly come across the talent of David Antunes. More than just a musician, David is the face of a project that blends family and passion: The Midnight Band.

From the UK to the Portuguese Stage

Born in Santarém, David Antunes took his music abroad early on. In 1990, he moved to London, where he lived until he was 20. He returned to Portugal in the year 2000, which remains his home today.

A singer, songwriter, and pianist, David’s relationship with the keys started incredibly early: he began playing with his father at just six years old.

The Big Break: “5 Para a Meia-Noite”

Public recognition exploded in 2009 when he was invited to join the house band for the iconic RTP show, “5 Para a Meia-Noite.” This era saw the official birth of David Antunes & The Midnight Band, featuring a very special lineup: his brothers, André Antunes and Valter Antunes.

After six years of success and chemistry on screen with host Pedro Fernandes, the band bid farewell to the show in late 2015, moving on to new adventures like the program “Agora Nós,” which they joined in February 2016.

iTunes Hits and Memorable Duets

David Antunes’ discography is defined by tracks that quickly climbed the sales charts:

  • 2014: Released the original tracks “Não te quero mais” and “És o meu final feliz” (both duets with singer Vanessa Silva). Both reached #1 on iTunes Portugal.
  • 2015: The single “Não vai acontecer” repeated this feat, hitting the top of the sales charts alongside “Hoje não estou p´ra ninguém.”
  • 2016/2017: Released successful singles such as “Voltar à casa de partida” and “Sem ninguém saber.”

The King of Impersonations and TV Success

In 2016, David accepted the challenge to compete in the TVI show “A Tua Cara Não Me É Estranha” (Your Face Sounds Familiar). His versatility led him to win the grand final in January 2017 with a powerful performance of Joe Cocker’s “You Are So Beautiful.” With this victory, he joined the prestigious list of winners alongside stars like Luciana Abreu and João Paulo Rodrigues.

Soundtracking Portuguese Drama

David’s talent also found its way into national television fiction. In 2018, the single “Sinto Falta” became an even bigger hit when it was featured on the soundtrack of the popular TVI soap opera, “A Herdeira.”
