Fluxus

Fluxus was a Portuguese hard rock band that emerged in the 80s with a characteristic sound of the time. The band consisted of Armando on bass, Joaquim José on rhythm guitar, José António on lead guitar, Pratas on organ, piano, and synthesizer, João Lúcio on drums, and Carlos Albino on vocals. They played a style of hard rock with dark lyrics, which fit well into the musical genre popular at the time.

The Fluxus compositions followed a familiar pattern, with solos and riffs that had been heard countless times in the 70s, and keys that leaned towards more accessible progressive rock. The band also tried to incorporate blues-rock elements, but with poor quality, which is especially evident in songs like “Portuguese Woman”. This approach was influenced by the music of The Doors, which was widely disseminated at the time.

The only record left by Fluxus was recorded at Rádio Triunfo studios under the production of Moreno Pinto. The vinyl cover reflects the band’s musical style, which was more geared towards an audience that appreciated heavier and more straightforward music. Although the band did not leave a lasting legacy, their work is an example of Portuguese rock music in the 80s and the influence of foreign bands on the national music scene.
