Who is “Rapaz Ego”?
Rapaz Ego was born in 2017, emerging from Luís Montenegro’s lack of self-esteem. He began with a strong presence, showcasing his power and maturity.
That same year, he released his debut EP, “Gente a Mais”. In 2020, he crafted another EP, “Rapaz Ego Canta Durante la Siesta”, which delightfully explored Latin music.
In 2021, Rapaz Ego presented his first full-length album, “Vida Dupla”, featuring iconic tracks like “Quero Tanto” and “Crime em Tânger”. This album showcased his mastery of prog-rock and indie pop, and he delivered memorable performances across the country, including a notable show at the Festival Paredes de Coura in 2022.
Now, in 2025, Rapaz Ego announces his new album “Fazer as Pazes”, led by the single “Tão Perto”, his most autobiographical song to date. “Fazer as Pazes” promises to be his most pop-oriented yet experimental album. With a talented band backing him – João Borsch on drums, Miguel Maroco on keyboards, Gonçalo Bicudo on bass, and Rodrigo Sousa on percussion and keyboards – the stage is set for a year that will mark Rapaz Ego’s artistic emancipation.
Between the lead singles and the release of his debut LP “Vida Dupla”, Rapaz Ego released the unexpected interlude “Rapaz Ego Canta Durante la Siesta”. The EP’s calling card, “Tan Suave”, was showcased in a music video directed by Gonçalo Perestrelo. This four-track Latin-tinged EP, featuring familiar and new songs, was set to be performed live at Casa do Capitão on October 17th.
Persistence is key to a pop music career in Portugal. Rapaz Ego, aka Luís Montenegro, is a multifaceted artist from the North who has evolved into a producer, multi-instrumentalist, and distinctive voice in Portuguese music. Although unrecognized until now, that’s about to change. Luís Montenegro first gained attention with his band Salto!, which initially sported an exclamation mark in its name, reflecting its bold statement.
