Porto Alegre project with disguised influences from North American independent rock from the 70s and 80s. They benefited, throughout their diverse formations and existence, from some success in their hometown.
Born in December 1984 under this name, Martinis went back to more distant roots when they were Aníbal Miranda‘s garage band with vast influences from Lou Reed or Iggy Pop. The band was initially formed by Anibal Miranda, recording a single under the name Aníbal Miranda e os Martinis.
Its most consistent line-up was as follows: José Ferrão on guitar (later in Repórter Estrábico), Pedro Maia (aka Pedrinho Caminho-de-Ferro) (ex-AuAuFeioMau) on bass (having replaced Guilherme Lucas – aka Sid Lucas -, later in Cães Vadios), Rui Taborda (RIP) on drums and Luís Resende (voice). They sang in English, a language that was later replaced by Portuguese. They had, in their final phase, a small sporadic variant called just Martins.
They never recorded under the name Martinis.
Aníbal é sensacional. Vim a conhecer a pouco tempo. Temos que destacar também o guitarrista que é brilhante
These singers have used their country’s fascinating culture to create beautiful and popular music.
