António Olaio and João Taborda
The duo António Olaio and João Taborda was formed in 1994. Being the first an artist and musician, and the second a musician and scientific researcher, the duo seeks to explore the potential of the guitar and voice format, assuming themselves simply as song composers.
Sharing the authorship of the themes, António Olaio, on vocals, and João Taborda, on guitar, create virtual universes, which seem, at the same time, surreal and familiar. After the release of Repórter Estrábico‘s fantastic first album, António Olaio, his vocalist and mentor, settled in Coimbra and, with the sponsorship of conimbricence Lux Records, joined João Taborda to create the “Loud Cloud” project.
The group was born in October 1994 and shortly after had an album released. Previously, the artist had released “Post-Nuclear Country”, a song video that accompanied the exhibition of the same name held at Galeria Monumental. The lyrics and melodies of this work were built by Olaio on instrumental backgrounds from old records, with the titles of the various tracks being the same as those in the paintings in the exhibition.
João Taborda, guitarist and composer who created themes for viola with a classical structure, was a former member of Ela e os Coisos, a group whose greatest achievement was a trip to the mythical Rock Rendez Vous and a third place in a modern music exhibition. Portuguese event held in Coimbra in 1989.
Olaio was born in 1963, in Sá da Bandeira, Angola, and stands out as a musician in Repórter Estrábico (of which he was the vocalist between 1987 and 1991). As a visual artist, he performed in several individual and collective exhibitions, within Portugal and abroad, with special mention from the jury of the Acarte/Madalena de Azeredo Perdigão Award for a music/performance show with João Taborda, as well as the Repsol Award, with architects Desirée Pedro and Carlos Antunes, for the sculptural piece created for the Penafiel service station.
Taborda was born in 1970, and has a degree in Biology and a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from Harvard University.
La musica è l’arte più vicina alle lacrime e ai ricordi.
The transition between songs is just great
You are more fun than anyone or anything I know, including bubble wrap
When u sing it feels there is music in the air
a true inspiration for the youth; you worked really hard to reach here.
I can listen to you sing all day.
Perhaps one of the most famous artists to come out of Portugal
