Tédio Boys
Tédio Boys – A punk rock band that was successful in the late 80s and early 90s.
Band originally from Coimbra, they have a unique history in the Portuguese music scene. While in Portugal they missed their success, they toured the United States. Six years after giving their last concert, two young people also from Coimbra, Rodrigo Fernandes and Rita Alcaire, decided to make a documentary about the unique trajectory of this mythical band.
“Filhos do Tédio”, a film of around 48 minutes that was premiered at the Indie Lisboa Festival. The tape is worth not only for the historical documents that show the band performing in Portugal but, above all, for the American adventure they played, unparalleled in the history of rock “made in Portugal”.
Irreverent and frantic, they started playing on a street in Coimbra, until the police put an end to the music. Years later, they would have the honor of taking to the main stage of Queima das Fitas, but the show was marked by a never-before-seen feat: the musicians performed naked. But the great adventure of these “boys”, who sought the title of Tédio “from the boredom that was experienced in Coimbra”, as singer Toni Fortuna says in the film, took place in the USA.
Today, Toni sings on “d3o”; drummer Kaló is in “Bunnyranch” and guitarists Vítor Torpedo and Paulo Furtado have enjoyed success with other projects. Vítor Torpedo shook up the London rock scene with The Parkinsons and Paulo Furtado, with Wraygunn and his solo project The Legendary Tiger Man, is one of the artists in focus in Portugal.
All that’s left is for bassist André Ribeiro to return to music. In the rhythm of a “road movie”, “Filhos do Tédio” lives with the group’s American trajectory one of the most interesting moments, with images from the time provided by Ernest Weber, the North American “road manager”. The tape is a document unique way to revive this “phenomenon” that, in the 90s, crossed the Atlantic towards the “American dream”.
Viva o punk!! Muito bom reviver meus tempos de garoto!!
