About the Song – Lyrics and Meaning

“Perdín a memoria” is a song written in Galician and French that was born out of a trip to France and speaks about unexpected love, inner change, and liberation. The positive energy of the song evokes previous successes by the artist such as “Ai de min!” or “O fío do que pendo”, two of the themes most cherished by her audience.

Written in Galician and French, the lyrics speak of the need to leave behind fear, laments, and the shadows of the past, and to make room for new possibilities, affections, and paths. The song is an invitation to free oneself from the shackles of the past and open up to the future, with hope and optimism.

The song’s narrative draws an emotional path between pain and liberation, between despair and renewal. The verse “Perdín a memoria” (I lost my memory) is a powerful metaphor for total surrender: to love, to change, to inner journey. Among the symbolic elements, the reference to Saint Anthony stands out, a figure deeply rooted in Portuguese culture. Here, he is invoked as a guardian of affections and new beginnings, in a plea for emotional healing: “Santo António, I make you only one plea…”

Music Video – An old cinema and a new identity

The release of the single is accompanied by a cinematic music video, shot at the iconic Cine de Osebe (Galicia), an abandoned space that gains new life in this visual production. Directed by Iago Vilarinho, Gustavo Dieste, and MJ Pérez, with color correction by Suso Bello (a reference in Galician cinematography), the video transforms the space into a visual narrative full of humor, surrealism, and aesthetic intensity.

Made in Portugal” Music Production

The production of the theme “Perdín a memoria” was handled by renowned Portuguese musician and producer Sérgio Miendes, known for his work with A Garota Não, João Pedro Pais, and other prominent artists. The creative meeting between MJ Pérez and Sérgio Miendes occurred organically, resulting in a sensitive and carefully crafted musical production.

The production was built remotely, with complementary recordings made in both Galicia and Setúbal, demonstrating the ability to collaborate and be creative at a distance. This approach allowed the artists to work flexibly and effectively, resulting in a high-quality production.

Live Debut

The first live performance of “Perdín a memoria” took place in October 2024, during a concert by A Garota Não at the Auditorio de Galicia in Santiago de Compostela. The Portuguese artist invited MJ Pérez to take the stage and present the song in its absolute premiere, reinforcing the artistic connection between the two and highlighting Galician music in the Lusophone context. This moment marked not only the song’s debut but also the connection between two important figures in music in Portugal and Galicia.

The story of the video dialogues with the music, but proposes a parallel and symbolic interpretation, where the protagonist multiplies herself in a visual game of mirrors, costumes, and atmospheres. The red costume, designed in collaboration with the Galician brand La Mapache, is one of the central visual elements of the music video, and also a protagonist element.

Collaborations and Production

The song also features collaborations with Ailén Kendelman (percussion) and stands out for its delicate production, built at a distance between Galicia and Setúbal. The combination of talents and musical styles resulted in a unique and captivating song that promises to mark the beginning of a new chapter in MJ Pérez’s career.
