Alla Polacca

Born in September 2001 in Senhora da Hora, on the outskirts of the city of Porto, Alla Polacca are currently composed of Márcio Carvalho (bass, vocals), Duarte Silva (drums), Leonel Sousa (guitar, vocals) and Pedro Silva (guitar, voice).

Of these, only Márcio and Leonel Sousa are founding members of the project, which has also included musicians such as Rodrigo Cardoso (guitar, between 2001 and 2008), Pedro Marques (piano, synthesizer, between 2001 and 2006), Telmo Carvalho (drums, between 2001 and 2005), Simone Sousa (voice, between 2001 and 2003) and Francisco Silva (guitar, voice, in 2003).

The association of time with music has always been based on two antagonistic aspects, that of aging and loss of creativity in musical composition and that of maturation and improvement of the ability to compose creatively. Fortunately for Alla Polacca, and after almost a decade of existence, they fit together in the most positive aspect. In other words, time meant a journey of improvement and the achievement of sound consistency.

Taking a situationist retrospective, we can see that, throughout their career, Alla Polacca underwent several changes in their lineup and, also, that these changes always had a direct impact on their musicality. Just listen to all of his records to realize this, with the sound recordings varying between environmentalism, melancholy and some explosions of rock on the edge of psychedelic.

The arrivals and departures of members brought a certain creative uncertainty into the band. But despite the fluctuations, the essence/basic concept was always present and was what maintained the balance and pointed in the right direction. And, despite some deviations, Alla Polacca managed to find the right direction and make their songs sound like what they set out to do: environmental and experimental rock with a strong emotional charge that balances somewhere between spring and autumn sensations.

Over time, Alla Polacca loosened up and made the songs from his latest work sound like sincerity. Nothing is forced or manipulated. Everything was born from the complicity between a group of musicians who, when together, release the best of themselves without any type of shame. And when that’s the case the end result can only be consistent and pleasantly creative. Everything you expect from music.
