Amor Electro

Amor Electro is a Portuguese band formed in Lisbon in 2010. The group is composed of Marisa Liz as vocalist, Tiago Pais Dias as guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, Ricardo Vasconcelos as keyboardist, Rui Rechena as bassist, until 2019 and Mauro Ramos as drummer.

They mix rock music (with some electronic elements) with traditional Portuguese music, using some typical instruments such as the accordion and the Portuguese guitar. They also revisit themes from the 1980s and 1990s of Portuguese pop/rock, playing versions of songs by Sétima Legião, GNR, Ornatos Violeta and other bands, in addition to their own original songs.

On May 14, 2011, they released their debut album Cai o Carmo e a Trindade. The album went directly to fourth place in the top sales charts in Portugal, reaching first place shortly after.

On September 19, 2011, it was announced that the band was nominated in the Best Portuguese Act category at the MTV Europe Music Awards. They were nominated again for the title of Best Portuguese Act at the 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards.

In January 2013, they were awarded the European Border Breakers Award (EBBA) in the Netherlands. That year, they released their second album (R)evolucion, which includes eight original songs and two versions.

The band is nominated at the 2014 Golden Globes in the “Best Song” category with “Só é Fogo se Queimar”, a song with lyrics by Jorge Cruz.

In 2014, they were invited to do the generic part of the soap opera Mar Salgado, on the SIC channel, in which the reissue of the 2013 album (R)evolucion appears. In addition to this theme, the new edition includes the recording of the “Concerto Mais Pequeno do Mundo”, offered by Amor Electro to listeners of Rádio Comercial.

They collaborate on one of the songs on the album Leva-me A Sério, by Agir. In 2016 they wrote the theme “Juntos Somos mais Fortes” for the RTP anthem for Euro 2016.

They participate with the song “Mas Isso Não Me Satisfaz” on the album Passa a Outro e Não ao Médio, promoted by Rádio Comercial, with 11 artists, 11 songs and 11 causes.

On August 7, 2019, through a statement on the Facebook page, the band announced the death of Rui Rechena, the group’s bassist.
