Bárbara Bandeira

Bárbara Sofia de Holanda Bandeira, better known as Bárbara Bandeira (Azeitão, June 23, 2001), is a Portuguese singer.

She began her career in 2015, at the age of 14, and since then has dedicated herself to producing songs, accumulating participation in several programs. In 2022 she won the Best Portuguese Act award at the MTV Europe Music Awards. That year, the single “Como Tu” was also released, in partnership with Ivandro, which remained at the top of the Portuguese singles chart for nine weeks, between 2022 and 2023.

Bárbara Bandeira is the daughter of singer Rui Bandeira and was interested in music from a very early age. When she was little, she wanted to be a veterinarian. In 2010, at the age of nine, she participated in the program Uma Canção para Ti, on TVI.

In 2012, she recorded with her father the song “Tu És Parte de Mim”, from the album Chegou a Hora.

In 2014, she participated in the program The Voice Kids, where she was part of mentor Anselmo Ralph’s team. From that period onwards she became popular through social networks, such as Twitter and Instagram, appearing as a rising talent in Portuguese music.

She made her professional debut in November 2015 with the release of her first single, “Crazy.”

In 2017, her song “És Tu” was part of the soundtrack for Espelho d’Água, a SIC soap opera. In the same year, she released the single “A Última Carta”. On May 20, 2018, she won the Revelation Award at the SIC Golden Globes gala.

In 2018, she released the EP Cartas, which reached number one on the Portuguese album chart. The album includes the songs “A Última Carta”, “Friendzone”, “Nem Sequer Doeu”, “E Se Eu” and “Como Sou”.

In October 2018, she was nominated for the 2018 edition of the Best Portuguese Act award, a category at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

In 2020, she had the song “nós os Dois” on the soundtrack of the soap opera Quer o Destino, on TVI. The hit went platinum and over 8 million views on YouTube.

In 2021, Bandeira released the single “Onde Vais”, featuring Carminho. The song’s music video took first place among the most watched videos in Portugal, shortly after its release. The success remained evident even a year after its launch, a feat that was celebrated by the artist on social media.

In 2022, he released the single “Como Tu”, in partnership with Ivandro, which occupied, for nine non-consecutive weeks, number one on the Portuguese singles chart, reaching number one for the first time in September 2022 and occupying that position for the last time in April of the following year. Until then, no song by a Portuguese artist had spent more than eight weeks at the top of this chart, published since January 2016. In January 2023, the single had already achieved double platinum certification. In November 2023, it was revealed that “Como Tu” had been the most played song on Spotify in Portugal in the period from January to October of that same year.

Also in 2022, Bárbara Bandeira was again nominated for the Best Portuguese Act award at the MTV Europe Music Awards, this time being the artist awarded the prize.
