Albertino João Santos Pereira, better known as Beto, (Peniche, December 28, 1967 – Caldas da Rainha, May 23, 2010) was one of the greatest Portuguese romantic singers of his generation.

Biography

At age 5 he started singing. At the age of 17 he went to Torres Vedras and played in several Portuguese music groups.

In 1992, he founded Tanimara, who were one of the best cover bands at the time. They performed at the Xafarix bar in Lisbon.

In 1998 he was invited by Maestro José Marinho to represent Portugal at the OTI Festival, in Costa Rica, with the theme “Quem Espera (Desespera)”, taking 3rd place.

From then on, several professional colleagues recognized his enormous talent and invited him to participate in their albums, in the case of Rita Guerra and Paulo de Carvalho, in duets, and in hundreds of concerts, in the case of Luís Represas and Paulo Gonzo, throughout the country and in prestigious venues such as the Coliseums and the Centro Cultural de Belém.

One of the highlights is “Brincando com o Fogo”, with Rita Guerra, which to this day is a very popular theme.

In 2000 he was invited to record a duo album with Rita Guerra. The album “Desencontros” gave rise to a tour with dozens of shows across the country.

Between 2000 and 2003 he recorded 8 themes for soap operas soundtracks.

On July 14, 2003, he released his debut solo album, “Olhar em Frente”, with themes such as “Memórias Esquecidas” (theme for the soap opera “Coração Malandro”), “Dois Corações Unidos” (from the soap opera “Nunca Digas Goodbye”) and “Tudo Por Amor” (from the soap opera “Tudo Por Amor”).

The album sold over 13,000 copies in four months and was certified Silver by the Portuguese Fonographic Association.

A little over a year after this album was on sale, it entered the top places of the national sales Top, remaining more than 57 consecutive weeks on the Top and reaching the platinum record (double platinum according to the new AFP rules) and being the Portuguese record best-selling book in 2004 (about 50,000 copies).

However, he makes some appearances on albums by other artists such as Gonçalo Pereira and Ménito Ramos.

On May 2, 2005 he released the album “Influences”. In just 6 months it is Platinum with almost 30,000 copies sold. And to mark the beginning of his tour, he performed live at the Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon.

In October 2005, at the invitation of Maria João Abreu and José Raposo, he made his theater debut: ‘A Revista é Liiinda’, a show that businessman Hélder Freire Costa presented at Teatro Maria Vitória. He plays “Estrela Da Manhã” and “Podia Ter Sido Amor” in a duet with Paula Sá.

He changes publishers and edits “Porto de Abrigo”, an album with a more acoustic and pure sound, trying to consolidate the bonds already created with his audience.

On the 4th of May 2010 he performed his last performance at the Solidarity Event-DESMISTIFICA SIMPLIFICA. This event was organized between the students of the Leisure Management Course and Business Tourism at the Escola Superior de Turismo e Tecnologia do Mar do Politécnico de Leiria and CERPIC PENICHE.
