Cais Sodré Funk Connection

CAIS SODRÉ FUNK CONNECTION are already a reference in the Lisbon scene. Born in the heart of the bohemian neighborhood that gives them their name, they are the first resident band at the MUSICBOX club, the center of the capital’s current musical nightlife.

Passionate about funk and soul, the band is dedicated to recreating the sound and atmosphere of classics from Motown, Stax, Chess Records and other mythical labels from the 60s and 70s, with the dedication and energy of a true celebration.

The experience of this group of veterans of Portuguese music, which as a whole brings together elements of Cool Hipnoise, Orelha Negra, Mr Lizard, Cacique 97, band Sergio Godinho, etc. (in addition to session musicians present in an immense majority of other projects), guarantees the wisdom necessary to produce the most contagious groove.
Its proposal is a journey through the history of black music according to the teachings of the godfather James Brown.

Like a well-thought-out selection from a Funk DJ, they dedicate themselves to recreating LIVE, through a 9-piece band, some of the most soulful and energetic moments ever recorded on vinyl. James Brown, Otis Redding, Etta James, King Curtis, Bobby Byrd or Ray Charles, sound here on stage as powerful as the originals, also giving space for jam sessions and interaction with the public, through their one show man SILK, aka Fernando Noble and the beautiful voice of singer Tamin.

True ambassadors of Funk and Soul, which today finds affinities in names like Sharon Jones & Dap-kings or Amy Winehouse, the Cais sodré Funk Connection show also revisits so many other classics sampled in the history of hiphop. So no one is surprised to see B-boys and B-girls dancing, while these badass mother funkers in fancy suits, live and in “black and white”, play some of the most irresistible funk classics, just like in the good old days. After all, this is at the end of the night, and just… great dance music!

Today they embark on creating and recording their first originals, always faithful to the groove and tradition that they have been studying and recreating regularly for over 2 years.
