Gemini was a Portuguese band from the 70s.

Tozé Brito, Mike Sergeant, Teresa Miguel and Isabel Ferrão formed Gemini in 1976, after the end of Green Windows. Later, he joined the group Jorge Hipólito, sound technician at Green Windows.

They released the single Pense em ti at the end of 1976. In the same year, Tozé Brito was considered Portuguese composer of the year by Billboard magazine.

In 1977 they participated in the RTP Song Festival with the theme Portugal no Coração. The event, under the motto As Sete Canções da TV, meant that the same song would be performed in two versions. The theme would end up winning the competition but in the version by the group Os Amigos. A single was released with “Portugal no cardiac” (by Ary dos Santos and Fernando Tordo) and “Cantiga de Além” (by Ary dos Santos and Paulo de Carvalho, the two songs also recorded by Os Amigos.

The album Thinking about you was released, with the themes Thinking about you, 1920, Living on your feet, Always saying we, Little things, The encounter, Portugal in the heart, When yesterday you left, Love song, Memories and Farewell.

That year, former Green Windows member Fátima Padinha joined the group. The single Uma flor na Window was released. A Christmas single, “É Natal, Merry Christmas”, was released in December 1977.

At the 1978 RTP da Canção Festival, only three performers participated with four songs each. Dai-li, dai-li dou, The circus and the city, New Year is a new life and Everything is worth it were the songs defended by the Twins. They won the festival with Dai-li, dai-li-dou, by Carlos Quintas and Vitor Mamede.

At the Eurovision Song Contest, held in Paris, they only managed 5 votes, placing 17th.

The album Dai li dou – Os Gemini na Eurovision includes Dai li dou, Valsa pobre, S.O.S. igual a sós, O tempo e o nada, Ano novo é vida nova, Disneylândia, O.V.N.I., O circo e a cidade, Uma geração, 1940, Tudo vale a pena and Na hora de partir.

In 1979, the single I want to hug you Friday night was also released. The band dissolved that year after Tozé Brito was invited to A&R at Polygram. The two singers joined Doce and Mike Sergeant joined José Cid’s line-up with whom he still collaborates.

A música portuguesa tem uma riqueza cultural incrível, e bandas como esta capturam essa essência de maneira sublime. Muito animado para o que vem a seguir!
