On November 11, 2000, Maxi appeared on the Portuguese music scene with an innovative style that was in line with the musical genre that won millions of admirers in South American countries.
To implement this new style in the national market, three young people with some history linked to music were chosen for the project:
KIKO – started out in bars, but after participating in television programs such as “Idolos” and “Operação Triunfo”, he discovered the pleasure of singing and immediately added music to his professional life as a banker to music;
RICKY – took his first steps in music playing the guitar, has participated in numerous bands and currently continues to work in computer programming, as a result of his Computer Engineering course;
SAM – family affinities, being the son of the singer Emanuel, meant that he took his first steps in the world of music from an early age and, currently, he is starting his career as an Architect.
When creating the first album Será que não vês, the music production team led by producer Emanuel, created songs that reflect this new concept in the Portuguese market.
In July 2001, Maxi was chosen to perform the main theme song of the soap opera Anjo Selvagem and, simultaneously, the themes of the main characters: Pedro and Mariana.
This choice revealed a new musical alternative linked to national fiction stories and made Maxi the first band to be catapulted into the limelight through a soap opera.
Noting their success with these themes, the following year TVI invited Maxi again to perform the theme Sonhos Traídos, from the soap opera of the same name, which quickly became an unprecedented success.
But if there were still any doubts about the receptiveness of the Portuguese to this new musical style, these were dispelled by the votes of the Portuguese who elected them as Best Group of the Year in fourteen National Radios, Kings of Song of 2003 and, successively, in the sales of Sonhos Traídos (Silver record) and Anjo Selvagem (Platinum record).
In 2004, they released their second album Sonhos…, with a handful of new hits and tracks recorded live at the Coliseu dos Recreios (Lisbon).
With all this, these years passed quickly, and a lot happened… According to them: “the absence of family and friends was felt, but it made us grow (…) and we owe this to the public who always encouraged us.”
After a well-deserved break from the stage during 2005, the return to shows took place in 2006 and in February 2008, with the album Reencontro, which quickly surprised everyone again with songs that differed a little from the previous ones and with new elements in the production team, in terms of authorship of songs and lyrics, such as Melão and Serginho.
His debut single, Um passo atrás, quickly caught the attention of the media, due to the particularity of its music video having a wardrobe by stylist João Rôlo and, simultaneously, starring actors Sofia Ribeiro and Nuno Janeiro. Shortly after, this same theme was chosen for the soap opera Feitiço de Amor, as well as the theme Mon amour, I love you, which ended up completing the soundtrack of the soap opera Deixe-me Amar.
In addition to these, the single “Sem o teu amor pra mim” was also chosen to be part of the soundtrack of two series (2008/2009 and 2009/2010) of the soap opera Morangos com Açúcar, which, once again, demonstrates the musical diversity of this album, as well as the vocal skills of the young people, who from then on, began to play a prominent role in the musical aspect of soap operas, having 7 songs in the 15 years of national fiction on TVI.
In 2012, they presented to the public the single Nas asas do amor (voarei para você) from the album they are currently recording in the studio. The new work will be presented in the first quarter of 2013 and its name will be Influences.
So, soon, new songs, shows, dreams and surprises…
