What is actually… Hip Hop Tuga

Also known as Portuguese Hip Hop, this genre arrived in the Portuguese country in the 80s, but became much more popular in the following decade. At first, the style invaded the suburbs of Lisbon. Regions such as Maia, Amadora and Vila Nova de Gaia are examples of areas considered the birthplace of the Hip Hop movement in Portugal. Along with the musical genre, MC, DJ, breakdance and graffiti came from the United States.

The biggest platform for dissemination of Hip Hop Tuga in the 1980s and 1990s was radio. The most famous radio program of the time was Repto, which widely publicized national rap and the artists who later became the affirmers of Hip Hop culture on the Portuguese scene.
