A Garota Não (Not The Girl)

Cátia Mazari Oliveira, known artistically as A Garota Não, is a talented Portuguese singer-songwriter born in Setúbal on October 29, 1983. She grew up in the 2 de Abril neighborhood, a social district of the city, where she developed her passion for music.

She began learning piano, but soon switched to the guitar, influenced by a friend. Cátia holds a degree in Communication and Culture from the Faculty of Letters of Lisbon and furthered her education in journalism at CENJOR. She worked as a radio host at Popular FM, an English teacher, and a swimming instructor, showcasing her versatility.

In 2019, A Garota Não released her debut album, “Rua das Marimbas nº7”, marking the beginning of her music career. Since then, she has received several accolades. The music video for “Adamastor” won the Best Music Video award at the 2019 Arouca Film Festival.

In 2022, she was invited by the Lisbon City Council to participate in a project celebrating freedom, writing a phrase that was painted on the city’s streets. That same year, her album “2 de Abril” was featured by Blitz magazine as one of the 50 Best Portuguese Albums and considered the best of the year by various publications.

A Garota Não continued to collect awards, winning the Best Performer category at the 2023 Golden Globes and receiving the Best Popular Music Work award from the Portuguese Society of Authors for her album “2 de Abril”. In 2024, she was awarded again by SPA with the José da Ponte Prize for the same album.

Additionally, A Garota Não was honored with the José Afonso 2023 Prize by the Amadora City Council, thanks to her work on the album “2 de Abril”, which featured artists such as Ana Deus and Chullage. Her music was also included in the anthology “As Palavras das Canções” (The Words of Songs), organized by João Calixto and published with the support of the Portuguese Society of Authors.

With a rising career, A Garota Não has established herself as one of the most important voices in contemporary Portuguese music, blending styles and emotions in her compositions.
