Cláudia Pascoal
Cláudia Pascoal (São Pedro da Cova, Gondomar, October 12, 1993) is a Portuguese singer. She started playing guitar when she was 15 years old. In recent years, she has emerged in national music and television circles through participation in musical competitions. She is best known for representing Portugal in the Eurovision contest in 2018 and for her pink hair.
Music contests
In 2010 she participated in the program Ídolos. She also competed in the first edition of Factor In 2015 she returned to participate in the program Ídolos where she began to gain attention. In 2017 she was a competitor on the program The Voice Portugal, although being one of the main favorites to win, her participation in the semi-finals ended.
In 2018, Cláudia Pascoal won the RTP Song Festival with the theme O Jardim written by Isaura. A few days later, the song “O Jardim” reaches the place achieved by few: 1st place in the iTunes top chart in Portugal. On March 10, 2018, WiwiBloggs, one of the most influential websites dedicated to Eurovision, lists the theme “The Garden” as one of the favorites to win. Out of a total of around 29 thousand voters, Portuguese music gathered 2,083 preferences, placing it between Italy (2,230 votes) and Ukraine (1,953 votes). However, the song ended up finishing last in the final stage of the competition, although it was the highest scoring last place ever in Eurovision.
Morhua
In 2017, the Morhua project was created, a Portuguese jazz band, composed of Cláudia Pascoal (voice and ukelele), Gabriel Gomes (drums), João Sousa (bass), André Soares (guitar) and Rafael Santos (clarinet). Through social media, the band announced that the project was coming to an end and the last concert was on July 14, 2018, at the Ourearte Music Fest.
Solo career
On March 29, 2019, Cláudia Pascoal publishes her first single “Ter e não ter”, whose musical composition was made by the singer herself, the lyrics written by Miguel Lestre and the sound production by Tiago Bettencourt. This song is the first song revealed from what will be Cláudia Pascoal’s first solo album. In a statement, the singer states that she wants to “do something different” with this first album: “I want to create a new environment, but for everyone. This is my desire.”
In 2020, the theme “Ter e Não Ter” was part of the soundtrack of the soap opera Quer o Destino. In 2021, the theme “Mais Fica Pra Mim” is part of the soundtrack of the soap opera A Serra and the theme “Almost Dança” is part of the soundtrack of the soap opera Para Semper.
