Formed in Lisbon in 1987, In Loco emerged as a pop rock project featuring José Fernando (vocals), Fernando Guiomar (guitar), Maria João (keyboards), Padi (bass), and Alfredo Brito (drums). The band made its debut that same year at the Portuguese Modern Music Contest, hosted by the iconic Rock Rendez-vous, a landmark venue in Lisbon’s music scene.

There, they introduced the song “Já Não Há Heróis”, which would become their signature track and open the door to the national record industry. Shortly afterward, the group signed with RM Discos, affiliated with Dansa do Som. Due to contest rules prohibiting signed bands from competing, In Loco withdrew—having already achieved their primary goal: to record and promote their music.

Between 1988 and 1991, the band released two more singles and toured across the country, with frequent appearances on radio and television. At the time, some media outlets regarded them as one of the most promising pop acts of the early 1990s.

In Loco disbanded in 1991, entering a hiatus that lasted over a decade. The group later returned with a new studio release. Frontman José Fernando resumed leadership, joined by original drummer Alfredo Brito and two new band members.
