Joana Espadinha

Joana Espadinha, a talented Portuguese singer-songwriter, was born in Lisbon on June 20, 1983. She graduated in Law from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa and later studied music at the Hot Clube de Portugal and the Conservatory of Amsterdam, specializing in Jazz.

In 2007, she was invited to participate in the “Fuse & Jazz” project, which resulted in the recording of an album. After completing her studies in Amsterdam, she began teaching Jazz Singing at renowned institutions, such as the Luís Villas-Boas Jazz School and the University of Évora.

Throughout her career, Joana Espadinha’s music has evolved from Jazz to incorporate elements of pop, rock, and folk. She has performed as a guest and composer for several Portuguese artists and joined musical groups, such as Cassete Pirata and The Happy Mess.

In 2014, she released her debut solo album, “Avesso”, followed by “O Material Tem Sempre Razão” in 2018, produced by Benjamim. In the same year, she participated in the RTP Song Festival with the song “Zero a zero”, reaching 9th place.

In the following years, Joana Espadinha continued to stand out, releasing the album “Ninguém nos vai tirar o sol” in 2021 and composing for other artists, including Cláudia Pascoal and Cristina Branco. In 2022, she participated again in the RTP Song Festival as a composer for the song “Ginger ale”, performed by Diana Castro.

With a career in constant evolution, Joana Espadinha has established herself as one of the leading voices in Portuguese music, known for her ability to compose and interpret songs that blend styles and emotions.
