Matias Damásio
A Musical Career of Success
Matias Damásio is an Angolan composer and musician born in Benguela on May 9, 1982. With a career spanning over two decades, Damásio has established himself as one of the leading figures in Angolan and Portuguese music.
Early Career
Damásio began his musical career in 2000, singing at religious festivals and participating in television competitions. In 2001, he took part in the “Estrelas no Palco” competition and finished among the top 12 finalists. Later, he joined the band Maravilha and singer João Alexandre to participate in the “Domingão Coca-Cola” competition, where he came in second place.
Success in Angola
In 2003, Damásio won the “À Sexta-feira” gala on Angolan Public Television with the song “Mãe querida”. He also won the Luanda Song Festival and the Angolan Popular Music Festival (Variante). In 2007, Damásio took first place in the “Top dos Mais Queridos” on National Radio of Angola with the song “Porquê”.
Consolidation in Portugal
In 2016, Damásio achieved huge success in Portugal with the song “Loucos”, a collaboration with the vocalist of the Portuguese band HMB, Héber Marques. The song reached number three on the Portuguese singles chart and number two on the download chart. The music video accumulated over 26 million views on YouTube.
Concerts and Festivals
Damásio made his concert debut in Portugal in March 2017, in Moura, Baixo Alentejo. He also performed at the MEO Sudoeste festival in August 2017. Additionally, Damásio held concerts at the Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon and the Coliseu do Porto.
