Welcome!

Manuela Moura Guedes

Manuela Moura Guedes (Cadaval, December 23, 1955) is a Portuguese television professional and former singer.

Manuela Moura Guedes was born in Cadaval and lived in Torres Vedras, where she attended the Liceu Nacional. From there, she went to the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, where she became a monitor of General Theory of Civil Law, being just a few subjects away from finishing the course. At the same time, she entered television, as a continuity announcer, at RTP, in 1978. She would present the RTP Festival da Canção in 1979, accompanying Fialho Gouveia, at a time when she still used the name Manuela Matos. “Matos” was the nickname of her first husband, to whom she was married for two years.

She recorded two singles without much impact: “Conversa Fiada” (1979) and “Sonho Mau” (1980). On the radio, she becomes one of the voices of Rádio Comercial, in programs such as Grafonolona Ideal and TNT-Todos No Top. She marries Francisco de Assis de Carvalho Jácome [de Sousa Pereira] de Vasconcelos (from Valentim de Carvalho), with whom she had a son, Francisco de Assis Guedes Pereira Jácome de Vasconcelos, on May 30, 1983 (39 years old) . The single Flor Sonhada, released in 1981, with two songs composed by Miguel Esteves Cardoso, including Foram Cardos, Foram Prosas, proves to be a success. In 1982 she would release the album Alibi, whose instrumentalization was in charge of the GNR and whose sales failed. On television, she continued in entertainment, with the presentation of Berros e Bocas, on RTP1, alongside Luís Filipe Barros. On Rádio Comercial, she would also present a program with journalist Henrique Garcia. In 1983, she moved to Telejornal. She presented for six years (between 1986 and 1992), on RTP2, the news program Jornal das 9. In 1992, she presented the program Raios e Coriscos, alongside Miguel Esteves Cardoso and Catarina Portas.

In 1995, she is elected deputy to the Assembly of the Republic, by the Popular Party. She arrived at TVI in 2000, becoming the pivot of Jornal Nacional, after TVI’s major rebranding. Her peculiar style, markedly sensationalist, earned her several criticisms from various political and social sectors, as well as from the journalistic class itself. Resisting these criticisms, she maintained her preponderance at TVI, under the influence of the then information director José Eduardo Moniz (who was, at the time, her husband, and with whom she had two children). Removed in 2005 by the station’s owners, she returned as presenter of Jornal Nacional-6ªFeira, from 2008 to 2009, knowing a definitive suspension by the administration of Prisa on September 3 of that last year. Following this event, Manuela Moura Guedes resigned from TVI’s information management, continuing as an employee of the station until 2011.

After two years of unemployment, Manuela Moura Guedes’ return to television took place on RTP1, in 2013, with the presentation of a new edition of the popular contest Quem Quer Ser Milionário?, which lasted until 2015. On October 6, 2014, started her collaboration as a commentator on the program “Barca do Inferno”, on RTP Info, along with Isabel Moreira, Marta Gautier (later replaced by Sofia Vala Rocha) and Raquel Varela. Manuela Moura Guedes left the program on June 8, 2015, at her initiative. In October 2018, she returns to political and social commentary, this time on SIC, with the heading “A Procuradora”, issued on Mondays, as part of Jornal da Noite, until 2020.
