The band has already been nominated twice for the Best Portuguese Act award at the MTV Europe Music Awards.
With origins dating back to 2002, at a time when it was just a joke between friends, the band was born for records by the hand of Rui Veloso. In 2005, and produced by Maria Records, owned by the renowned singer and composer from the north, the band’s first album was born. The album Um Tanto ou Quanto Atarantado was released in July 2005 by Maria Records. In August 2006, they released, online only, the single “Sílvia Alberto”, which remained in 1st place in the downloads chart for a few weeks. Other songs followed in the same format, such as “Queixa ao Pai Natal” (Christmas 2006) and “Queixa a Cupido” (February 2007).
In December 2007, they resumed editions with Rádio Alegria, which was distributed in book format with the inclusion of a CD. On this album are some of the most famous songs by Os Azeitonas such as “Quem és Tu Miúda”, “Nos Cartoons (Never Ends Bad)” or “Mulheres Nuas”.
After two albums had been released (in physical and digital format) by Maria Records, they edited Salão América for free download on their website. Within this work are the hits “Anda Comigo Ver os Aviões”, “Café Hollywood” and “Dança, Menina Dança”.
In 2011, the DVD Em Boa Companhia Eu Vou was released, recorded live in December 2010. The record comes with the first physical edition (on CD) of the album Salão América. In 2012, the album reached second place in the top sales charts in Portugal.
The theme “Anda Comigo Ver os Aviões” becomes a great success after being sung by a competitor of the program Ídolos. It was also adapted by Vasco Palmeirim, from the Rádio Comercial morning show, in a satire on Pingo Doce entitled “Walk with me to see the promotions”.
In May 2012, Miguel Araújo, who is part of Azeitonas under the stage name of Miguel AJ, released his first solo album.
The group was nominated for the title of Best Portuguese Act at the 2012 MTV Europe Music Awards, which would be won by the singer Aurea.
