Cassete Pirata

Cassete Pirata was born in 2016 in Lisbon, Portugal by the hand of five friends united by jazz, willing to write and discover new songs in Portuguese, in a return to the references, landscapes and sounds that we all have in common.

Produced by Luís Nunes (aka Benjamim), the band brings together the creativity of João Firmino’s (Pir) voice and guitar, the firm hand of bassist António Quintino, the shattering beat of João Pinheiro and the sensitivity of Margarida Campelo’s voices and keyboards and Joana Espadinha.

A Montra, the debut album released in 2019, was considered one of the best of the year for Antena 3, with the singles “Chora-mãe”, “Ferro e Brasa” and “Outro Final Qualquer” paving the way for the revelation of their music .

“This album is the organic result, sometimes slower and more sinuous, but always rich and dazzling of what it is like to (on) live as a band, as artists, as personalities

whole, in this game we are now entering. This is our first record, it’s our first showcase.” says the band.

This year they present the N2 Tour, which is both a tribute to the longest road in the country and Europe and a motto to take their music to places where it has never been heard.

Considered a real breath of fresh air in the panorama of Portuguese indie rock, Cassete Pirata find their home on stage.

2024
“Tens o Meu Coração” (You have my heart) is the third single in anticipation of “A Família”, Cassete Pirata’s next album. Now available on all digital platforms, it is a song that tells us about the bitter and sweet tone of each heart, which has both light and shadow.

According to Pir, the band’s vocalist, lyricist and composer, “You have my heart” talks about “accepting both sides, without shame, without moralizing. The sweetest – which can bring love and security – and the darkest, and its destructive potential towards those who love us. Knowing how to ask for help, but also knowing how to define our space so that, alone, we can resolve our inner adventures is a life mission, a long learning process that requires a lot of self-analysis and honesty.”

This is a song by someone who opens – almost literally – their heart and prints it in a living painting, in the style of Cassette Pirata, illustrated in a music video directed by Martim Torres.
