Corrosão Caótica

Formed in 1988 in Lisbon, Corrosão Caótica began their musical journey with Rui on drums and Miguel (also known as Zé Gato) on bass. Initially, they had the collaboration of Penas on vocals and Cruche on guitar, rehearsing in a Lisbon basement where they played covers of bands like Charged GBH, Disorder, and Chaos UK.

In 1989, Joãozinho (guitar) and Paulo Piranha (vocals) joined the group, which started to take shape. They rehearsed in the same basement as other punk bands from the Lisbon scene, such as Atrofiados, Tropa Morta, Cianeto, Fart, and Dr. Estigma. It was in this year that they recorded their first demo, “Mais uma História de Amor” (Another Love Story), with the guitars recorded in the bathroom of Cianeto’s guitarist.

In the following years, they gave several concerts in Portugal and Spain and, in 1991, recorded the 7″ EP “União e Ocupação” (Union and Occupation) for Slime Records, which would be released only in 1992. During this phase, the group had a second guitarist, Susana, who performed live with the band on several occasions.

In 1991, Corrosão Caótica also had a side project called Kolestrol, which included Joãozinho, Zé Gato, Rui, Serpa (Ku de Judas), Zé Pedro (Atrofiados), and Susana (Dr. Estigma). However, in 1994, Zé Gato left the group due to musical differences, joining Subcaos temporarily.

Before ceasing their activities in 1996, Corrosão Caótica recorded a CD in 1994 for Projecto Global, showing an evolution in their sound with thrash influences. Despite their relatively short career, the band left a significant mark on the Portuguese punk scene of the 80s and 90s.
