Doismileoito
Maia Band Conquers National Stages
The group, formed in 2006 in the city of Maia, won over audiences and critics after winning the TMN Garage Sessions contest. This victory opened the doors to the main stage of the Sudoeste Festival, sponsored by the operator. Since then, the band has worked hard to release their debut album, which hit stores in 2009.
Project Origins
The band’s story began in the basement of drummer and pianist André Aires’ home, where the project started to take shape. Over time, Pedro Pode (guitarist and vocalist) and Nicolau (bassist) joined the group. Nicolau, who completed his graphic design course in 2008, brought a new perspective to the band.
Growing Recognition
Expectations surrounding the group increased in 2008, when they were featured in a reportage on the RTP program “Quilómetro Zero”, presented by JP Simões. Additionally, EMI invested in the band, generating great anticipation. Live performances, including the Super Bock em Stock festival, impressed audiences and solidified the band’s reputation.

The Peculiar Name “Doismileoito”
The peculiar name “doismileoito” (which isn’t even the year the band was formed) is explained by Pedro Pode as follows: “I think that, unconsciously, we developed this idea of doing things based on our own justifications without thinking about the possibility of having to explain them to someone one day. And the band’s name is a bit a result of that. What led us to the name ‘doismileoito’ isn’t that interesting (and has nothing to do with the year), but for many people, it might be the most spectacular thing in the world. I think that’s the joke of it all.“
In this statement, Pedro Pode reveals that the band’s name is a reflection of their carefree and self-justifying approach to creativity, and that its significance might be subjective and open to interpretation.
New Album: “Pés Frios” (Cold Feet)
The band’s latest album, “Pés Frios”, is the result of hard work and intense rehearsals, as the members themselves like to emphasize. The achieved sound gives the album a simple and resplendent character, produced by Nuno Rafael at the Valentim de Carvalho Studios.
