NZZN
The NZZN’s story is a testament to the passion and dedication that defined the Portuguese music scene in the 80s. At a time when securing a record deal was more accessible than today, the band emerged with infectious energy, initially playing Van Halen and AC/DC covers in places like Cascais.
The transformation occurred when they decided to create original music, driven by Vadeca’s commitment to Portuguese bands. The invitation to perform in rehearsal rooms and Idílio Viana’s attention were the first steps towards success. The invaluable support of UHF, who took them on tour as an opening band, was crucial in solidifying their presence in the music landscape.
Over time, NZZN became autonomous, releasing memorable singles like “Vem Daí” and “Trip Fixe”. Recording the LP “Forte e Feio” in 1984 seemed like the culmination of a promising journey. However, inexperience in production resulted in a sound that didn’t meet the band’s expectations. Critics were harsh, and internal problems ultimately led to the group’s demise.
The NZZN’s story, despite the challenging outcome, remains an important chapter in Portuguese rock history, showing how passion and determination can shape careers, even in the face of adversity.
